My wife and I are being pushed by the public to start a Saturday evening shuttle between Asheville/West esp due to the success of the Pop Asheville Shuttle and the need for a late night bus to run as the city is unable to do this because low rider ship on the existing city bus's. This is an issue as several folks work later in the evening (service industry not to mention tunnel rd and walmart employees) and so we are passionately moved to start a trend that the city will eventually take over. Our passion is not in actually running this however we are willing to do this for a year in order to get the ball rolling. Our community needs this.
Originally our attempt was to join the "Ashevillage Building Convergence" and LaZoom would help paint or beautify existing city bus's with hopes of raising morale and increase ridership and with that money increase the bus schedule to the needs of the community. It kills us to see how under utilized our bus system is in such a green progressive city.
What we are about to offer the city is a late night shuttle every Saturday night (April 08 -April 09) from 9pm -3am with arrival and departures every half an hour. The bus will be bio fueled, no food or drink with safety host, driver and live entertainment. Our current break even point is higher than we want to chance and we sacrifice our own wear and tear. Are we silly for considering this? Is this something the city might back? Should we charge sponsorship from the bars or buisiness' we stop at?
What would you do? Who should I seek council with?
Thank you
Jim Lauzon
